I’ll start off the first discussion topic by first stating I am enjoying this book quite a bit. I’m also laughing quite a bit.
That said, did anyone else find the fact that it starts in an alternative timeline to be a little disorientating?
I’m not sure there was a better way of writing it. But, I’m also not sure that I like the fact that after 2 Tracks, we aren’t entirely sure what is going on. Yes, we are starting to get a bit of an idea as to the cause of this whole mess. But, as a matter of personal tastes, I tend to get bored when a book takes so long to “get to the point,” so to speak. I’m finding it a wee bit frustrating that David is dragging that part out.
Is there anything you would change?

I am going to be incredibly biased, because I LOVE this novel. One of the reasons I love it so much is that it is a big departure from the usual ST novels. It’s story is expansive and becomes complex and interesting. And just WAIT till you find out what’s going on… 😀
That all being said… I think that by starting in the alternate timeline it gives you a sense of “Hey now! What’s this?” Hopefully, sending you on a journey to find out what the hell is going on. Why is Picard the First Officer? How did Jack survive the Stargazer? I do wish that Mr. David had revealed a little of what’s going on in the beginning a little. But after you’ve read Stephen King, everyone seems to get right to it. The Stand? Holy cow it took hundreds of pages just to tell you what the story was really going to be about. I think that you will NOT be disappointed when the truth behind the mystery is revealed.
I’ll have to think a little more about your last question. So far there isn’t much I would change. But maybe when I read a little further I’ll find something I would have liked a little different. 🙂

Don’t get me wrong, overall I am enjoying it. That said, if it wasn’t making me laugh, and if I didn’t think David was doing such a fabulous job captures characters that I love, I would have already put the book down. I’m nearly 1/4 of the way through, and some of the plot points are just taking to long to reach.
So far, that’s my only criticism of the book, which is really a minor one.
The Stand was a book that I never read beyond the first 50 pages. Stephen King is a very hit and miss author for me.

I agree with you Jules. I like the book so far but was confused and at times annoyed with the jumping back and forth. I do like that he included a character from the original series.
