I’m still watching the episode (Tilly is trapped in the booth), and this isn’t so much a comment on this episode, anyway, but…
The creature was trying to communicate with Tilly – said repeatedly that she/it had important information – and Starfleet’s goal is to find and communicate with different life forms. Why didn’t anyone tell Tilly to ask it what it wanted? Why didn’t Tilly think to ask?
